Wysokości

“Wysokości” (“High Altitudes”) is an ongoing series of analog collages created from archival photographs taken during high-mountain expeditions by my aunt, Ewa Abgarowicz—a photographer who accompanied Wanda Rutkiewicz and other Himalayan climbers on their journeys through the Karakoram and Himalayas—combined with contemporary cutouts from magazines such as National Geographic, Vogue, and KMAG.In these works, I bring together two worlds: the rawness of historic expeditions and the intensity of today’s visual culture. Fragments of analog frames—carrying the weight of real experiences and physical hardship—are interwoven with bold contemporary forms, colors, and characters. Through this process, I create a narrative that revives and reimagines old memories, placing them in a fresh, modern context.The series is continually evolving. Each new collage becomes a dialogue between generations, mediums, and memory; between documentary photography and intuitive artistic interpretation.
